My two first given names are Jai Nitai, of Sanskrit origins. Jai means ‘glory’ or ‘to glorify’ and Nitai means ‘Eternal.’  The vibration is said to be sacred. The sacredness of the name is obviously bigger than me though!

Lotus was my MC/Producer name for many years, until Flying Lotus became a household name, then I decided to add my real name to the mix.

Tu as opté pour l’absence de couleur. Le noir. Pourquoi noir et non pas… blanc?

The title NOIR was the original name given by the producer Kenlo to the instrumental piece. I wanted to stay true to the title that he had given it.  Even though, when I hear the music, I picture an orange colour. So with the video concept, we decided to use orange, black and white as themes, because of the mix of sound and energy that all the participating artists gave. But when I hear or see the color noir, it can make me think of power, strength, mystery and meditation.

“Blackness, high in the eyelids, is where I go to pray.” – Georgia Anne Muldrow, ‘Kali Yuga’

Peux-tu me donner les noms des artistes avec qui tu as collaboré pour la réalisation de NOIR et ce qui t’as amené à les choisir.

I had been a fan of this Kenlo instrumental for many years. When I finally decided to do a mixtape project, I immediately thought of using this one. I recorded my verse, and thought because of the revolutionary clash of sounds, I reached out to Sam I Am Montolla to approach it with a Soca sensibility (even though it doesn’t sound like a Soca rhythm). Then I thought of Vox Sambou because I knew his voice and energy would just take it to another level!

For the video we connected with the Director Noe Sardet (Para Films) and a whole bunch of other talented artists and friends to help create the playful, but anthem-like energy.

Quel message espères-tu diffuser avec NOIR?

My message with NOIR is that you can create a raw, catchy anthem that actually uplifts and inspires people to be themselves. Take risks with your art, and have fun that is not at the expense of others.

Vox Sambou, la voix sans fin! Noir.

Merci à Sam I’Am Montolla.

Noirement tienne,

Jennifer S.
